Sugar Crops Research Institute Mardan
The institute was founded in 1952 as SugarcaneResearch Station.It was upgraded to Sugar Crops Research Institute in 1981. Its total area is 96.46 acres comprising 70 acres under cultivation. It lies at 34o north latitude, 72o East Longitude, and elevation of 1470 feet. Mean temperature range during winter is 0o C to 10o C while in summer it is 31oC to 45oC. The climate is sub tropical and annual rainfall is 696 mm and the relative humidity is 60.8. Irrigation is done using canal. Soil type is silty clay loam with a pH of 7-8.

- Variety and Production technology development
- Screening of Breeding materials procured from abroad and with in the country.
- Research on Sugarcane Varietal Hybridization.
- Standardization of planting time sowing methods, seed rate, fertilization, efficient irrigation, weeds management and intercropping.
- Adaptive Research Plots at farmers fields.
- Lab analysis of sugarcane and Sugarbeet Research Samples from within and outside the institute.
- Focus on the yield and quality, resistance to bolting, insect pests and diseases.

- Development of Sugarcane and Sugarbeet varieties.
- Development of crop production and protection technologies.
- Multiplication and distribution of disease free healthy seed to cane growers.
- Standardization of plant protection techniques for ensuring production of healthy Sugarcane/Sugarbeet at farmer’s field.
- Dissemination of the improved technologies to the end users.
